Dr. Winter Goodson
Dr. Winter Goodson is a dynamic literacy leader, speaker, and the founder of GAINS Resources LLC. With a career dedicated to transforming literacy outcomes, she has led and conducted professional learning in 35 school districts across the nation, partnering with educators, leaders, and communities to implement research-based literacy practices that drive meaningful change.
Dr. Goodson is a certified instructor for Reading Research to Classroom Practice through the North Carolina State Improvement Project (NCSIP) and brings deep expertise in foundational literacy instruction, reading curriculum implementation, and effective teaching practices. She also serves as a Professional Learning Specialist with Amplify, delivering high-quality, impactful literacy training to educators and school districts nationwide.
Her work is grounded in a commitment to equity, partnership, and access. Dr. Goodson witnessed firsthand the disconnect that often exists between schools and families—recognizing that even the most supportive caregivers may lack the tools needed to fully support their child’s academic success. Drawing from her personal journey as a college student and single mother, she understands the transformative power of belief, opportunity, and sustained support.
Founded on these principles, GAINS Resources exists to bridge schools, families, and communities. While the organization strategically partners with schools and districts to strengthen literacy systems, its mission acknowledges that lasting success requires engaging the entire ecosystem surrounding a child.
At GAINS, we don’t just focus on academic growth—we foster school–community collaboration, cultivate parent and caregiver leadership, and leverage literacy as a vehicle for systemic transformation. We don’t just teach reading—we grow leaders, strengthen systems, and help students, families, and schools rise together.

Notable Community Collaborations
Dr. Goodson recognizes the uniqueness of each community and the transformative power of collaboration. She has successfully partnered with families, local businesses, and community organizations to enrich student learning, growth, and development.
Partnered with community members and local businesses to design and build a beautiful tranquility garden for staff and students. This beautiful space promotes wellness and mindfulness while fostering a sense of community pride among staff, students, and partners.
Dr. Goodson’s passion for early literacy instruction has driven impactful initiatives for decades, including the creation of an annual free summer literacy camp. Designed specifically for rising kindergarten children in an economically distressed area. For three years, this program provided foundational reading skills to set students on the path to success.
By focusing on early literacy, Dr. Goodson and her team are addressing critical educational needs while fostering a love for reading and learning at an early age. This initiative exemplifies how dedication and community-driven programs can make a lasting difference in the lives of young learners.
In 2023, Dr. Goodson, while serving as principal, partnered with the local Air Force Base to host an unforgettable mock trial experience. The Big Bad Wolf found himself in the hot seat, tried and ultimately found guilty by a jury of young, enthusiastic future lawyers. This creative and engaging event offered students the chance to step into the courtroom, sharpen their critical thinking skills, and get a hands-on glimpse of the legal system.
Jul 27, 2020 Dr. Goodson volunteered with Literacy Connections of Wayne County for Story Time Online.
